The American Chemical Society (ACS) is the world’s largest scientific society dedicated to advancing chemistry. At UMD, our ACS Student Chapter brings students together through professional development, service, community, and more!

Any University of Maryland undergraduate or graduate student! Every major and every skill level is welcome. We are looking for students who are excited about STEM, networking, and community service.
Not at all! National American Chemical Society membership is entirely optional. Joining our UMD student chapter is separate, and you get all the same benefits in our chapter as National members including chapter events, tutoring, and mentorship.
Nope! The chapter is open to every major. If chemistry is part of your coursework or just something you find interesting, you belong here!
At least three per semester, plus the required service hours (0 for Fall Semester 2026). Those three can be any mix of speaker events, community service, lab tours, etc. Whatever fits your schedule!
Drop-in study sessions are completely free and open to everyone, Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, with extra sessions added during finals week. Private one-on-one tutoring is paid, rates vary by tutor per one-hour session, and is arranged between you and your tutor.
